Population projections for the cantons in Switzerland 2015-2045
Large increase expected in number of retired people
Neuchâtel, 12.05.2016 (FSO) – Almost all cantons will record positive population growth over the next thirty years. This growth will be accompanied by a marked increase in the number of people of retirement age in all the cantons according to the new population trend scenarios for Switzerland’s cantons calculated by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

Projected Population Increase in Switzerland between 2015 and 2045Swiss Statistics expects strong population increases caused by immigration. A second reason is the move to regions that are still in reasonable distance to the centers, like Fribourg, Vaud or Thurgau. Swiss Statistics sees the total population rise by 6.7% per year.

Summary:
The population increase in Switzerland is far higher than in the euro zone countries and speaks for continuing demand for Swiss francs and a continued CHF strength. Elderly people in Switzerland have far higher pensions and higher purchasing power than people in the euro zone. This implies higher consumption even in older ages.
