Switzerland Unemployment in July 2018: Unchanged at 2.4percent, seasonally adjusted unchanged at 2.6percent

Registered unemployment in July 2018 – According to SECO surveys, at the end of July 2018, 106,052 unemployed people were enrolled in the Regional Employment Centers (RAV), 527 less than in the previous month. The unemployment rate remained at 2.4% in the month under review. Compared to the same month of the previous year, unemployment fell by 27,874 (-20.8%).

Seasonally adjusted Unemployment Rate

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is unchanged at 2.6%.

Number of unemployed and Job seekers

Youth unemployment in July 2018
Youth unemployment (15-24 year-olds) increased by 1,070 people (+ 10.0%) to 11,807. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this represents a decrease of 3,856 persons (-24.6%).

Unemployed 50 and more in July 2018
The number of unemployed 50 and more decreased by 684 people (-2.2%) to 30,420. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this represents a decrease of 5,335 persons (-14.9%).

Job seekers in July 2018
A total of 179,857 jobseekers were registered, 80 more than in the previous month. Compared to the same period of the previous year, this number fell by 15,366 (-7.9%).

Notified vacancies in July 2018
On 1 July 2018, the obligation to notify jobseekers with an unemployment rate of at least 8% was introduced throughout Switzerland. Thus, the number of registered jobs has increased significantly compared to the previous month. The number of vacancies reported to RAV increased by 13,150 to 30,004. Of the 30,004 jobs, 14,284 were subject to mandatory reporting.

Billed short-time working in May 2018
In May 2018, 909 persons were affected by short-time work, 643 fewer (-41.4%) than in the previous month. The number of farms affected decreased by 36 units (-29.3%) to 87. The lost working hours decreased by 17,752 (-23.2%) to 58,732 hours. In the same period of the previous year (May 2017), 204,779 lost hours had been registered, which had been distributed to 3,876 persons in 389 companies.

Deductions in May 2018
According to preliminary figures from unemployment insurance funds, the number of persons who had exhausted their right to unemployment benefit during the month of May 2018 amounted to 3’484 persons.
