There's no shame in taking a year off between high school and college to figure out your options. If nothing else, taking the time to get a little experience in the real world with a low-end job will give you a good perspective of why you're spending the time and money at college in the first place.

it also depends on what sacrifices you are willing to pay or invest cause nothing is for free.
And this means also a committment to not use false excuses once a decision has been made.

In more and more jobs a formal education is mandatory and also your opportunities without are limited. Ever thought about emigrating to another country ?

Then you will need that particular formal education and not the stories bigger than life how many start ups you had been involved in which once the interrogation starts usually ends in a question of why did you participate in so many if not one became the big success. Why haven't you learned of those defeats earlier ?

      And immigration will be rejected.

Also in case of college or here University do not miss opportunities cause you do not need to make debts and pay the university. The oldest and most famous universities are not in the USA, but can be found in Europe most likely a lot of them in germany as a result of a huge competition among the 37 states and kingdoms before german unification.

Here you can study for free, no tuition fees to a University, not for domestic students nor abroad which means even and quite often americans come over to study but there is a draw back or at least 2:

first will be the way of learning and examins cause multiple choice is rarely used. You have to elaborate a topic on your own so you have to work a lot more to get a good grade and result.

then you need to work much harder than in the USA cause studying here is not like living on an animal farm or as we call it Pony Farm. You need to work much harder and might not even get the grades you had been used to get in the USA not due to language barriers just by the level of skills required. Emigrants that arrive in the american school system can only laugh about what is taught in Math and science or how much is missing cause they had learned it already here. Of cause might be biassed, so ask american students who had studied in germany and you will get their answer which will always be the same that they had to realise how far they had been behind and that even 3rd world country exchange students had learned more skills

Finally you need language certificates to be accepted and you need to proof that you are able to live about 1 year on your own money which has to be put as deposit on your bacnk account where you can withdraw 1/12 of that amount per month. Yes, you can even work here while studying and get paid without paying taxes. Also health care is cheap or free which means for a student about 50 € a month incl. hospital, surgeries and what not.

But if you are not competitive and willing to sacrify things and shift priorities forget about that cause I had enough problems with those foreign candidates to explain why they can no longer study here once they have not made an examin 3 times which means exmatriculation and not being able to study the same discipline here at any of our universities so eeverything would be lost. And in most cases those guys and girls had all the same issues : too low math skills and awareness for priorities and learning speed
