The US already has about 95 million adults out of the labor force. Adding healthy elderly will boost the numbers of the able-bodied, but underemployed. Paradoxically, this may increase the number of unemployed as healthier elderly will reduce the number of care workers required in the future. Healthier aging will be great only if social security can be cut back, and jobs created to employ all these healthy senior citizens.

I wonder why they don´t talk about tech improvements which will render much of today´s employment obsolete, we´re seeing it now with some tech companies like facebook, who would have thought 20 years ago that a company ranked about 5th place by market cap in the US would only need less than 20000 employees? The biggest challenge in the future will be how to best manage the education of the population in an economy with different needs

The biggest problem with regard to the labour force, is the number of people who are of working age who are not participating. That drives up systemic public debt, and drives down economic productivity. As a result the US GDP is held back. Simply because the Democrats need regular, predictable voters.

Maybe it'll get employers to pay liveable wages for those who can and want to work ?

More funding for basic translational research about repairing the damages of aging is needed too (e.g. SENS and Aubrey de Grey). NIH and NIA focus too much on non translational research and geriatrics.
