01.09.2022 – Turnover adjusted for sales days and holidays rose in the retail sector by 4.6% in nominal terms in July 2022 compared with the previous year, with just under half of this upturn due to price increases. Seasonally adjusted, nominal turnover fell by 0.3% compared with the previous month. These are provisional findings from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
Real turnover adjusted for sales days and holidays rose in the retail sector by 2.6% in July 2022 compared with the previous year. Real growth takes inflation into consideration. Compared with the previous month, real, seasonally adjusted retail trade turnover registered a decline of 0.5%. Retail sector excluding service stations Adjusted for sales days and holidays, the retail sector excluding service stations showed a 3.5% increase in nominal turnover in July 2022 compared with July 2021 (in real terms +2.0%). Retail sales of food, drinks and tobacco registered an increase in nominal turnover of 0.8% (in real terms –0.9%), whereas the non-food sector registered a nominal plus of 6.0% (in real terms +4.5%). |

Excluding service stations, the retail sector showed a seasonally adjusted decline in nominal turnover of 0.3% compared with the previous month (in real terms –0.4%). Retail sales of food, drinks and tobacco registered a nominal minus of 0.8% (in real terms –0.8%). The non-food sector showed a plus of 0.4% (in real terms +0.3%).
