Godfrey Bloom: The Futility of War

Part of the upcoming World War III” documentary

Few individuals can claim to speak with equal authority on both the intricacies of the modern financial and monetary system and the hard realities of military strategy and especially the connection between the two. Trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Bloom served in the British Territorial Army, specializing in logistics and procurement and reaching the rank of Major. He is also a Member of the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) and he has presented papers and lectures to the RCDS, Joint Services Staff College, and the National Defense University in Washington. He also spent decades as an award-winning investment manager in the City of London, where his focus on Austrian School economics and his knack for pattern recognition earned him a reputation for financial forecasting. From 2004 to 2014, he served as a Member of the European Parliament, during which time he rose to even higher national and international prominence thanks to his uncompromising and often brutally honest floor speeches exposing the Union’s hypocrisy, malpractice and the inherent flaws of the Euro.

In the interview that follows, Bloom talks about nearly every war in recent memory being the result of cold, psychopathic and extremely misguided calculations made by a class of politicians who treat global warfare like a game that they have no skin in. As he highlights: “It was ever thus: old men in the safety of their club sending young men to die in war. No good ever comes of it.” The same pattern can be found in the ongoing Ukraine war and in the Middle East conflict.

While he is no pacifist, and he does believe war is necessary for self-defense, he delivers a scathing indictment of the “moral obligation” fallacy that has been used all too often to drag nations into foreign entanglements without mission statements, and most importantly, without exit strategies. In his usual style, he also minces no words when it comes to describing the kind of people that are in charge of these devastating decisions: “And what they have to understand—and I don’t think many people do—just how stupid politicians are. They are phenomenally stupid. So think of your local bar, think of your local pub, think of your local restaurant… Think about who is the most stupid person in there, and you’ve got your average politician in spades.”

Because of its federalist structure in combination with direct democracy. It assures that the power of politicians is limited and that the people and not the politicians are the sovereign.
