| We’re entering a period of history where countries must be much more self-sufficient. Not just because of the debt and trade issues — and those imbalances are unsustainable — but also because of security. With today’s geopolitical instability, a country like the U.S. can’t afford to be be dependent on imports from countries like China. Raymond Thomas Dalio is an American billionaire hedge fund manager and philanthropist who has served as co-chief investment officer of Bridgewater Associates since 1985. He founded Bridgewater in 1975 in New York. Within ten years, it was infused with a US$5 million investment from the World Bank's retirement fund.

The US is approaching the end of the long-term debt cycle. There are 3 levers we can pull to bring the deficit down to ~3% of GDP and mitigate our debt burdens: 1) reducing spending, 2) increasing taxes, and 3) lowering interest rates.
