Sygnum, a digital asset banking group, has announced the appointment of J. Christopher Giancarlo, former Chairman of the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), as its Senior Policy Adviser.
During his time at the CFTC, Giancarlo was known for his support of open markets, innovation, and balanced regulatory approaches.
His advocacy for cryptocurrency before the US Congress earned him the informal title of “crypto dad.”
He remains active in digital asset policy discussions and recently took part in the White House Digital Asset Summit, where regulatory frameworks and industry collaboration were key topics.
In his new role at Sygnum, Giancarlo will offer guidance on regulatory frameworks, strategic partnerships and the global digital asset landscape.
He will also contribute his wide network across public and private sectors and support the banking group in advancing its mission to enable secure digital asset ownership globally.
Recent regulatory shifts in the US may bring about significant changes to digital asset markets, infrastructure and projects worldwide.
Sygnum has been closely monitoring these developments and intends to work with Giancarlo to explore collaboration, mergers and acquisitions, and other opportunities for strategic growth.
Commenting on his appointment, Giancarlo said:

“I am excited to join Sygnum as Senior Policy Adviser as the global digital asset industry approaches an inflection point in institutional adoption. I look forward to contributing my regulatory knowledge, networks and perspectives to Sygnum’s growth strategy, as well as advancing the group’s mission to build new regulated bridges between the traditional and crypto economies on a global scale.”
Giancarlo joins other members of Sygnum’s Advisory Council, including Philipp Hildebrand, Vice Chair of BlackRock, and Alexander Lipton, Fellow at MIT’s Connection Science.
