Switzerland Unemployment in November 2017: Up to 3.1 percent from 3.0 percent, seasonally adjusted decreased to 3.0 percent from 3.1 percent

 

Unemployment Rate (not seasonally adjusted)

Registered unemployment in November 2017 – According to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) surveys, at the end of November 2017 there were 137’317 unemployed registered at the Regional Employment Centers (RAV), 2’517 more than in the previous month. The unemployment rate rose from 3.0% in October 2017 to 3.1% in the month under review. Compared with the same month of the previous year, unemployment fell by 11,911 persons (-8.0%).

Seasonally adjusted Unemployment Rate

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 3.1% to 3.0%

Number of unemployed and Job seekers

Youth unemployment in November 2017
Youth unemployment (aged 15-24) decreased by 335 (-2.0%) to 16,570. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this represents a decrease of 2’351 persons (-12.4%).

Unemployed 50 and more in November 2017
The number of unemployed 50 and more increased by 861 persons (+ 2.4%) to 36,590. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this represents a decrease of 1,592 persons (-4.2%).

Job seekers in November 2017
A total of 204,141 jobseekers were registered, 6,116 more than in the previous month. Compared with the same period of the previous year, this number fell by 11’074 persons (-5.1%).

Notified vacancies in November 2017
The number of vacancies reported to RAV decreased by 322 to 11,994.

Billed short-time working in September 2017
In September 2017, 1,414 people were affected by short-time work, 28 more (+ 2.0%) than in the previous month. The number of affected companies increased by 12 units (+ 7.5%) to 171. The lost working hours increased by 18’876 (+ 27.5%) to 87’398 hours. In the corresponding period of the previous year (September 2016), 285,774 lost hours had been registered, which had been distributed to 5,059 persons in 505 companies.

Drivers in September 2017
According to preliminary figures from unemployment insurance funds, the number of persons who had exhausted their right to unemployment benefit during the month of September 2017 amounted to 3’016 persons.
