Switzerland Unemployment in February 2017: Decreased from 3.7 percent to 3.6 percent, seasonally adjusted unchanged at 3.3 percent

Registered unemployment in February 2017 – According to the State Secretariat of Economic Affairs (SECO) surveys, 159’809 unemployed persons were registered at the Regional Employment Centers (RAV) at the end of February 2017, 4’657 less than in the previous month. The unemployment rate thus fell from 3.7% in January 2017 to 3.6% in the reporting month.

Seasonally adjusted Unemployment Rate

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained the same at 3.3%.

Number of unemployed and Job seekers

Compared to the previous month, unemployment fell by 1’608 persons (-1.0%).

Youth unemployment in February 2017

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 year olds) decreased by 674 persons (-3.4%) to 19’108. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to a decrease of 1’383 persons (-6.7%).

Job search in February 2017

A total of 223’627 vacancies were registered, 3,234 less than in the previous month. Compared to the same period last year, this figure rose by 739 (+ 0.3%).

Reported vacancies in February 2017

The number of vacancies reported to RAV increased by 947 to 12,041 posts.

Calculated work in December 2016

In December 2016, 5’350 persons were affected by short-time work, 854 fewer persons (-13.8%) than in the previous month. The number of affected farms decreased by 90 units (-15.9%) to 475. The lost working hours decreased by 66’722 (-19.7%) to 271’502 hours. In the corresponding period of the previous year (December 2015), 258,788 hours of waiting had been registered, which had spread to 4’497 persons in 490 companies.

People Exiting the Labor Force

According to the provisional figures of the unemployment insurance funds, the number of persons who had exhausted their right to unemployment compensation during the month of December 2016 amounted to 3’713 persons.
