Out of a possible 1,000 points, Sunrise was awarded 951, Swisscom 933 and Salt, formerly Orange, 878. described connectivity standards in Switzerland as “extremely high”. Compared to similar tests in Germany and Austria, even Salt performs to a high level. Sunrise’s score of 951 breaks a new record for the three countries, pushing the operator into the category of “superior” performance.

In most voice tests Sunrise was described as being easily ahead, especially when calling from the car in larger cities. However in rural areas the gap between Sunrise and Swisscom shrank to a couple of points. In walk tests, which were done in Switzerland’s larger cities, Sunrise and Swisscom scored similarly. Despite being behind these two on these tests, Salt still delivered a very good performance said the report. Compared to last year, Sunrise and Swisscom were ahead. By comparison, Salt has remained the same. Swisscom is the only Swiss operator supporting the new Voice over LTE technology. This helped its performance but not enough for it to out do Sunrise on voice performance.

On data performance, what matters when you accessing the web, the ranking was the same. Here Sunrise improved the most compared to last year, particularly when driving in large cities. The performance gap between Sunrise and Swisscom was smaller on walk tests than while driving. As with voice performance the gap shrank to almost zero in small towns and on connecting roads. Again Salt was behind despite delivering a very high level of stability.

In a press release today Salt said it had upgraded or retrofitted more than 450 antenna sites with low frequency bands.
