What’s the difference between bullion coins and numismatic coins?

In this video, Money Metals’ Mike Maharrey talks with precious metals specialist Rob to break down one of the most confusing topics in gold and silver investing.

Here’s the simple difference:

• Bullion coins are valued primarily for their gold or silver content. Their price is based mostly on the current spot price of precious metals. Examples include silver bars, American Silver Eagles, and generic rounds.

• Numismatic coins are collectible coins valued for rarity, age, mint mark, condition, historical significance, and collector demand — sometimes far above their actual metal value.

Many people inherit old Morgan silver dollars or rare-looking coins and assume they’re worth thousands. But in many cases, coin dealers evaluate them mainly for their silver content unless the coin has verified collector value.

Rob also explains:

• Why some “rare” coins aren’t actually rare
• Why eBay prices can be misleading
• Why bullion is easier to sell than collectible coins
• How liquidity affects pricing
• Why most bullion dealers focus on metal value, not collectibles
• The truth about collector premiums and coin grading

If you own old silver coins, are investing in precious metals, or are thinking about buying gold and silver, this video can help you avoid expensive mistakes.
