The unemployment rate thus fell from 3.3% in April 2017 to 3.1% in the reporting month. Compared to the previous month, unemployment fell by 5,000 persons (-3.5%).

The hotel sector registered 15.7 million overnight stays in Switzerland during the winter tourist season (from November 2016 to April 2017). This represents an increase of 2.0% (+314,000 overnight stays) compared with the same period a year earlier. With a total of 8.2 million overnight stays, foreign demand rose by 2.1% (+171,000).
