Swiss and foreign workersBetween the second quarter of 2017 and the second quarter of 2018, the number of foreign workers rose by 0.8% and those of the Swiss working population by 0.6%. Among those who were gainfully employed abroad, the increase was highest for those with a residence permit (C: + 2.5%). This was followed by cross-border commuters (ID card G: + 0.8%) and short-term residents (LP card, less than 12 months in Switzerland: + 0.2%). Unemployment among EU28 / EFTA nationals was 6.8% in the second quarter of 2018 and 13.8% for non-EU nationals. Duration of unemploymentBetween the second quarter of 2017 and the second quarter of 2018, the number of long-term unemployed persons according to the ILO (one year or more unemployed) increased from 83,000 to 93,000. The share of long-term unemployed in all unemployed also grew; it increased from 39.1% to 41.0%. The median duration of unemployment increased from 242 to 270 days. Part-time work and underemploymentThe number of part-time workers in the second quarter of 2018 was 1.749 million (+46 000 persons compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year).
