What “cull” means

These are cull / no-grade Peace Dollars—well-worn coins that may show heavy circulation, scratches, dings, rim bumps, or other marks from decades of use. If you love history-in-hand (and you’re stacking silver without paying collector-grade premiums), this is the fun stuff.

Pittman Act + 1921 return of the silver dollar + 2021 anniversary

• Pittman Act (1918): Authorized the melting and recoinage of millions of U.S. silver dollars—helping pave the way for new silver dollar production in the early 1920s.

• 1921 return of the silver dollar: Silver dollars came back in 1921—Morgan Dollars were struck first, followed later that year by the debut of the Peace Dollar as the new post–World War I design.

• 2021 Silver Dollar Coin Anniversary Act: Created to mark the 100th anniversary of the 1921 Morgan and Peace Dollars, celebrating the return of the silver dollar and the first year of the Peace Dollar series.

Peace Dollar design symbols (obverse and reverse)
Obverse (Lady Liberty)

Liberty’s portrait (left-facing): A modernized Liberty meant to feel less classical and more “American” for the post–World War I era.

Radiate crown: The spiked, sunburst-style crown echoes “rays of light” symbolism—often read as hope, a new dawn, and national renewal after the Great War.

Windswept hair: Gives Liberty motion and life—commonly interpreted as forward momentum and the country moving into a new era.

Inscriptions:

LIBERTY across the top reinforces the core national ideal.

IN GOD WE TRVST uses the classical V for U (a deliberate Roman-style engraving choice).

Designer’s initial: The small “F” near the neck truncation is Anthony de Francisci’s mark.

Reverse (Eagle, Peace, and the “New Dawn”)

Bald eagle at rest: Unlike more aggressive eagles on earlier coins, this one is calm and grounded—symbolizing peace after war rather than conquest.

Olive branch in the talons: A direct, traditional emblem of peace—and the whole reason the coin is called the Peace Dollar.

Rock perch: The eagle stands on a rock (a stability symbol), often read as strength and endurance even in peaceful times.

Rising sun rays behind the eagle: The radiant lines suggest a sunrise / new beginning, reinforcing the postwar “fresh start” theme.

PEACE at the bottom: Unusually explicit for U.S. coinage—this is the design’s mission statement in one word.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA / E PLURIBUS UNUM / ONE DOLLAR: Standard nation-and-value identifiers framing the symbolism and tying it back to circulating American money.
