10-2-25 Who Needs the BLS:? Shutdown Silences Jobs Report
2025-10-02
The government shutdown has silenced the Bureau of Labor Statistics, leaving investors without the monthly jobs report. But does Wall Street really need the BLS to keep moving?
Lance Roberts & Michael Lebowitz explore what happens when government labor data goes missing, how traders adapt, and what alternative indicators might offer clues about the state of the economy. Lance and Mike also examine valuation metrics in the markets, and discuss claims that interest rates are still too high. Can the "AI Effect" sustaining markets and the economy continue into 2026?

A Dollar Reversal Could Halt The Gold Bull
2025-10-02
In Monday’s Commentary, we alerted readers that the dollar could be setting up for a reversal higher. Furthermore, we noted that if such a turn comes to fruition, some investors may encounter surprises. To wit: As such, investors should examine their portfolios for risks that have developed with the reversal of the previously overbought dollar, to …

Data Myopia Foils The Fed
2025-08-08
For months, we have been warning that the labor markets are not as strong as the BLS data attests. Six months ago, we wrote: While labor market data is generally good, there are signs the labor market is at a standstill. Continuing jobless claims are steadily rising and at their highest level in over three …

8-7-25 The Risks of Investing in AI Stocks vs the Dot-com Bubble
2025-08-07
Investing in companies just because they’re "in AI" is reminiscent of investors who plowed money into anything that had a .com behind their names at the turn of the century. That did not end well for most.

6-16-25 Market Effects of Iran-Israel Conflict
2025-06-16
[NOTE: This is a "color-corrected" verson of our second show segment this morning, which unfortunately had audio issues.]
Lance Roberts breaks down the latest developments in the Iran-Israel conflict and what they mean for global markets: Be careful of headlines and re-allocating capital based on the "news of the day." By the time this show had aired, markets had already moved past the news of Israel’s pre-emptive attacks on Iran’s nuclear and military facilities. Meanwhile, Markets are still consolidating. Investors should not necessarily look for a better price, but for a better risk/reward opportunity.

Initial And Continuing Jobless Claims On The Rise
2025-06-13
Initial and continuing jobless claims are as close to a real-time proxy on employment as we have. Thus, while they do not hold the same importance to the markets as the monthly BLS data, they are worth tracking. Moreover, when trends are changing, as they may be now, their importance increases. The two graphs below …

6-11-25 Zero % Interest Is Not Normal
2025-06-11
What the market expects, and what happens in real life, are two different things: Interest Rates are a function of economic growth and inflation. With GDP at 2.3 and Inflation at 2.3-ish, Yields should be at about 4.6-ish, and that’s about where they are now. Zero-percent rates is not normal; buying a house at 2.5percent is not normal.
Where we are now IS about normal.
