Swiss employees the best paid in Europe, according to study

According to a recent study, employees in certain roles in Switzerland are paid around 50% more than those second-placed Luxembourg. The premium applies to recent hires, middle managers and qualified professionals, says the study conducted by Willis Tower Watson.

The report, entitled Global 50 Remuneration Planning Report 2016/2017, looks at pay across 50 roles and 60 countries including Switzerland and 15 other countries in Europe.

For Switzerland, the study calculated an average gross salary of CHF 164,000 for a middle manager, well ahead of second-placed Luxembourg. paying CHF 110,000 for a similar position. Specialists at the beginning of their careers averaged CHF 89,500 in Switzerland.

Even after taxes and living costs, Swiss workers came out on top, with higher spending power. A average middle management salary after adjusting for spending power and taxes was CHF 97,000, compared to CHF 91,000 in Luxembourg.
