Construction Industry Production, Orders and Turnover Statistics in 4th quarter 2015

Secondary sector production in Switzerland still falling

Neuchâtel, 25.02.2016 (FSO) – Secondary sector production fell by 4.5% in 4th quarter 2015 compared with the same quarter a year earlier. Turnover declined by 7.1%. Production and turnover have fallen continuously since the 1st quarter 2015. These are provisional findings from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

Secondary sector production (industry and construction) fell in 4th quarter 2015, in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier, by 4.5%.

In comparison with the previous year industrial production declined in October by 0.6%, in November by 6.5%, and in December by 5.3%. For the whole of 4th quarter 2015 production declined by 4.5% in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier.

Construction production declined by 5.0% in 4th quarter 2015 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Production declined by 7.2% in building, civil engineering also registered a decline (-4.4%). Lastly, specialised construction activities registered a decline of 4.6% in their production.

Turnover also fell
Secondary sector turnover fell, in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier, by 7.1%.

Industrial turnover fell by 4.3% in October in comparison with the previous year, and fell also in November (-9.0%) and in December (-8.2%). For the whole of 4th quarter 2015 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier, turnover registered a decline of 7.5%.

Construction turnover fell by 5.2% in 4th quarter 2015 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Turnover fell by 7.4% in building, Civil engineering registered a decline of 4.9%, specialised construction activities a decline of 4.6%.
