Bonds have been in a 35-year long bull market, spurred on in recent years by the extraordinary policies of central banks aimed at reversing persistent deflationary pressures. As a result, returns on safe-haven bonds have reached multi-century lows with large tranches of the market offering negative yields. Now, however, there are signs that the tide is turning and the implications could be profound for investors in other asset classes as well as bonds.
