He graduated from the Zurich University with a degree in Economics and later, he went on to get a PhD in Economics graduating magna cum laude. In the 1970s, Faber worked in the White Weld & Company Limited and was sent to its branches in Zurich, NYC and Hong Kong, where he eventually settled in 1973 and began working at the Drexel Burnham Lambert. Seventeen years later, while he was serving there as the director of management, the company went bankrupt and was closed down. Following this, Faber ventured out into the business world on his own and founded Marc Faber Ltd. His company serves as an investment advisor and consultancy. Faber is also involved in fund management, servicing clients for greater financial establishment. He made the field of investment his forte and his policies of non-conformism, different strategies of investment and contrarian investment acts have received worldwide acclaim. He came in the limelight due to his prediction of the crash of 1987 as he accurately advised his clients to get out of the stock market before the crash of October 1987, saving them millions of dollars. N. Vittachi’s book Doctor Doom – Riding the Millennial Storm – Marc Faber’s Path to Profit in the Financial Crisis, published in 1998, brought Faber’s success story to every doorstep, as he was subject of the book. Since then, Faber is frequently seen on television, participating in forums and radio shows, giving his opinion on investment opportunities and financial struggles. Faber also serves as director, advisor, and shareholder of a number of investment funds that focus on emerging and frontier markets, including Leopard Capital’s Leopard Cambodia Fund and Asia Frontier Capital Ltd.'s AFC Asia Frontier Fund.
