Switzerland Unemployment in November 2019: Up to 2.3 percent, seasonally adjusted unchanged at 2.3 percent

Unemployment registered in November 2019 – According to surveys by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), at the end of November 2019, 106,330 unemployed were registered at the regional employment agencies (RAV), 4,646 more than in the previous month. The unemployment rate rose from 2.2% in October 2019 to 2.3% in the month under review. Compared to the same month last year, unemployment fell by 4,144 people (-3.8%).

Seasonally adjusted Unemployment Rate

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is unchanged at 2.3%.

Number of unemployed and Job seekers

Youth unemployment in November 2019

Youth unemployment (15-24 year-olds) decreased by 32 persons (-0.3%) to 11,960. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this represents a decrease of 1,060 people (-8.1%).

Unemployed 50-64 years in November 2019

The number of unemployed 50-64 years increased by 1’410 persons (+ 5.0%) to 29’819. Compared to the same month last year, this corresponds to a decrease of 771 persons (-2.5%).

Job seekers in November 2019

A total of 182’427 jobseekers were registered, 5’932 more than in the previous month. Compared to the same period of the previous year, this number fell by 7’785 persons (-4.1%).

Notified vacancies in November 2019

On 1 July 2018, the obligation to register professional types with an unemployment rate of at least 8% was introduced throughout Switzerland. The number of vacancies reported to RAV decreased by 2’759 to 32’168 in November. Of the 32,168 jobs, 19,545 were subject to mandatory reporting.

Billed short-time working in September 2019

In September 2019, 2,090 people were affected by short-time work, 1,126 more (+ 116.8%) than in the previous month. The number of affected companies increased by 39 units (+ 54.2%) to 111. The lost working hours increased by 54’951 (+ 108.2%) to 105’753 hours. In the corresponding period of the previous year (September 2018), 23,284 lost hours had been registered, which had been distributed to 421 persons in 61 companies.

Controls in September 2019

According to preliminary figures from the unemployment insurance funds, the number of persons who had exhausted their right to unemployment benefit during the month of September 2019 amounted to 2’023 persons.
