Sean (Diddy) Combs is a hero of mine. You probably don’t know why and would learn a lot by listening to our discussion that explains why. Can’t imagine Diddy being a hero of yours? Tell me what you think after you hear this.
Sean became a hero because he followed a classic hero’s journey of overcoming tremendous adversity. He was able to do so because he had good guidance to develop good character and because facing adversities strengthened his character. Because of his strengths, he achieved great things and he then evolved to view helping others as being more important than helping himself. In Sean’s case, his father was killed when he was two; he spent his early years in a rough neighborhood; his mother worked four jobs at a time and raised him to have great character and work his butt off and so he became extremely successful as a self-made businessman and artist (e.g., his record company has sold over 600 million albums, his spirits company sells more than 2 million cases annually, and his streetwear brand is one of the nation’s biggest). And he is still a humble learner and is devoted to helping others. To me, he is a role model for everyone, not just people who know him as a rapper. I ignorantly didn’t know these things about him until I got to know him well. You must watch this to understand why he is a hero and is likely different than you’d expect him to be. You also will understand why my wife and I want to help young folks who are in underserved communities be all they can be. |
