Yanis Varoufakis, DiEM25 co-founder and MeRA25 MP, on the economic and political impact of the coronavirus.

U.S. President Donald Trump urged Americans on Monday to halt most social activities for 15 days and not congregate in groups larger than 10 people in a newly aggressive effort to reduce the spread of the coronavirus in the United States.

Announcing new guidelines from his coronavirus task force, the president said people should avoid discretionary travel and not go to bars, restaurants, food courts or gyms.

As stocks tumbled, Trump warned that a recession was possible, a development that could affect his chances of re-election in November. The Republican president said he was focused on addressing the health crisis and that the economy would get better once that was in line.

The task force implored young people to follow the new guidelines even though they were at lesser risk of suffering if they contract the virus. Older people, especially those with underlying health problems, are at the greatest risk if they develop the respiratory disease.

White House officials said Saturday evening that U.S. President Donald Trump has tested negative for COVID-19, just hours after he and his virus task force announced widening travel restrictions, with the U.K. and Ireland being added to his previous travel ban.

Jennifer Johnson reports that while the president tested negative, the average American is still struggling to access testing.

Apple also took its own steps to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Robin Gill looks at its decision to close all stores outside of Greater China would close for two weeks.

Just 10 days ago, I thought everyone was overreacting about coronavirus COVID-19. I was wrong. The data and stories I have read since then, especially those coming out of Italy, have completely convinced me that this is a very real threat that is about to change our lives drastically in the near future. This video represents my own views based on what I have read and what I believe to be true as of March 13, 2020 and what my family is doing to cope with this threat. Stay safe. Wash your hands. Avoid crowds and large social events.

***Note: a couple of YouTube viewers have disputed this account and insisted that in Italy all patients are being cared for and given a hospital bed and that patients are not being left without treatment due to triage (despite the article above to the contrary). One source cited was this JAMA interview from March 13, 2020 of an Italian ICU doctor, Dr. Maurizio Cecconi: https://youtu.be/TKS1pahoPRU. At 21:30, he talks about this issue. Thanks to YouTube viewer Ignazio Magnani for making me aware of this interview!
