While the efforts are commendable, the messaging needs a great deal of improvement. Moving up streams is not the answer and nor should it rightfully be called prevention. Prevention and proactive solutions is actually stopping plastic pollution at the source – which means stop using so much plastic in the first place. Especially single-use plastics. Cleaning up, whether it's the ocean or a river, is not prevention. This organization misses that messaging at every turn in their work. Additionally, blaming the rivers of Asia is an easy way to neglect a larger truth – almost all of the companies (approximately 95%) making plastics are United States or European based companies all originating with global oil monopolies who seek to capitalize on countries with poor worker and environmental standards for both production and disposal of the products. While we appreciate the work on this story, the most important information to drive real preventative change is missing or intentionally omitted. We have to truly turn off the tap on plastic which means holding the biggest producers accountable.

    Some facts for your consideration:
    1. Glass is very heavy, increasing fuel usage when transporting it.
    2. You cannot make glass from every kind of sand, it is a more limited ressource than you might think, but at least it is infinitely reusable.
    3. Most plastic that enters the oceans comes from Africa and Asia.
    4. Plastic fibre in clothing is an important source of micro plastic. Avoid if you can.
    5. Consuming less or paying more does not automatically mean foregoing quality of life.
    6. If you can, try reducing the amount of plastic in your furniture, your home will be much nicer. 🙂

Imagine reducing world population on every country into a 0.01%….
Imagine how Earth would finally have a breath and how nature itself would clean all this plastic away without moving a finger.
Education is an alternative solution to overpopulation and all the problems that create, reason why the poorest are usually the one that bare more childrens.
